ICE SKATING IS HOT SPORT IN KANSAS CITY
Ice Skating, as cold as it may be in the rink at Pepsi Ice Midwest Skating and Training Center in Overland Park, is one of the hottest sports emerging in Kansas, say Karen Tornquist, Director and Coach for Figure Skating Elite, a program for cultivating children with big dreams to pursue ice skating beyond the beginning basics and advance into the sport of figure skating.
Pepsi Ice Midwest has felt the impact the Olympics has had resulting in enormous interest and participation on public skating sessions and the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Group Class Program. It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm these new beginner skaters have for the sport and the joy in having a lot of fun on the ice, says Tornquist.
Karen Tornquist has implemented the Figure Skating Elite program that enhances the development of group class skaters by excelling them into the sport of figure skating. The Figure Skating Elite program provides and includes practice sessions, individual lessons, off-ice jump training, athletic sports performance, sports nutrition, Dartfish Video Analysis Training (slow motion playback and synchronized comparison clips for improving technical skills in basic skating, spins and jumps), training for local competitions and exhibitions as well as testing through their Basic Skills Badges and Official U.S. Figure Skating Tests up through the Senior Gold Test Level, the level a skater needs to accomplish to be eligible for Olympic and World Competition.
